It’s Full Brick Or Nothing For Barry & Ann
Like so many people who have previously owned or lived in a full brick home, Barry and Ann McGeown are sold on the many positive benefits a full brick home offers.
So much so, they have not only built a brand new full brick home with Full Brick Homes – but they are also renovating the original North Shore home, on the same block, in full brick as well.
“We had no problems what-so-ever finding a builder to build our full brick home. As the name suggests, our builder – Full Brick Homes - specialises in creating homes of distinction.
“With their experience, comes expert knowledge – such as the inclusion of expansion joints in the walls, almost completely eliminating the potential for cracking.
“They get ‘full wraps’
in my opinion,” said Barry.
Using Austral Bricks Bowral Murray Grey, the McGeowns created a modern look internally by rendering and painting the walls. Externally the use of the Gertrudis Brown bricks allowed for the creation of a more traditional façade, blending with the surrounding streetscape.
When asked to define his favourite feature of a full brick home, Barry quickly – and without hesitation – said “The look of brick.”
However, Barry and his wife Ann also chose full brick for it’s sound insulation properties. “Our block is close to a busy road, so noise was an important consideration. The ability of full brick to effectively buffer or, in some cases, eliminate external noise was ideal in our situation,” added Barry.
Unusually, local council regulations in their area did not allow for the installation of air-conditioning – “But it doesn’t matter, the full brick’s thermal mass does such a good job of creating a constant internal temperature there is no need for it. In fact, we don’t even have central heating, we only need to use a little heater through winter to keep warm,” concluded Barry.
The final benefit the McGeowns believe they have gained from their full brick home is the reduced threat of termite attack. Full brick provides extra protection against costly pests, thanks to the main structural elements being of brick and proper concrete slab design.
With a full brick home you can rest assured you won’t be woken by the sound of hungry pests gnawing on your home in the middle of the night.
