We Can Walk Into Our Full Brick Home & Leave the Hustle & Bustle of the Outside World Behind

When building a home in the Sydney suburb of Mascot near Sydney’s busy airport, noise reduction is a big factor in the design and construction of any home.

Having recently moved into their new full brick home, Saj & Farida Masum and their two children, Sameer, 5, and Leanne, 4, quickly discovered the acoustic insulation properties of full brick construction.

“My favourite aspect of our new home is just how quiet it is. Once we close all the windows and doors you can’t hear the outside noise, something which is particularly important where we live. I can walk inside and leave the hustle and bustle of the outside world behind,” explained Saj.

Saj said they had no problems finding a builder who would build in full brick. “There were many builders to choose from. We chose Full Brick Homes because they have built quite a few homes in the Mascot area, and have a good reputation.”

Saj and Farida had never lived in a full brick home before so based their decision on four factors.

“Firstly full brick construction is only marginally more expensive than brick veneer once you factor in costs such as insulation and second, full brick homes have a reputation for withstanding the test of time, lasting longer than brick veneer construction with less maintenance costs.

“Then there is the potential saving a full brick home can deliver on heating and cooling costs and finally, the noise reducing acoustics.

“We talked to many of our friends who live in full brick homes and the common theme was that a full brick home will save us money on electricity costs through a reduced need for heating and cooling the home. As well a full brick home is a good investment as it will easily last a lifetime with very little maintenance and has a good resale value,” explained Saj.

Externally the Masum’s used Austral Bricks Old Colonial face bricks, Birchgrove blend, giving their home a classic aesthetic which will set their home apart for generations to come. And, it will require little to no maintenance over the years unlike painted or rendered alternatives.

Internally the walls have been rendered and painted to achieve a modern, crisp aesthetic. Unlike chipboard or other lightweight materials these walls will stand up against the inevitable bumps and scrapes that come with two young, growing children a lot better than their alternatives.

Based on his experience of living in a full brick home for the first time, Saj said “I would happily recommend a full brick home to my family and friends”.
